What is the CPR Prompt Home Learning System?
The CPR Prompt Home Learning System is a comprehensive do-it-yourself
training system that combines realistic practice manikins with an interactive
video to provide all the tools you need to learn CPR and choking first
aid skills for adult, child and infant in your own home and at your own
pace.
2.
What is included with the Home Learning System?
- Two
Manikins - combination Adult / Child and Infant Manikin
-
Interactive videotape for Adult / Child / Infant CPR
-
Replaceable Lung Bags
-
Supplemental Learning Guide
-
Use & Care Book
3.
Is this the same as a CPR course?
Yes. The Home Learning System is the equivalent of a Basic Life
Support class conducted by the American Heart Association, the American
Red Cross, the National Safety Council or any other national CPR training
organization.
4.
Does the American Heart Association recognize the CPR Prompt Home Learning
System as training?
Yes. The American Heart Association has approved the home learning
system and considers it to be comparable to its HeartSaver (Basic Life
Support) program.
5.
How old does a child need to be to learn CPR?
According to the International Guidelines, any child with “sufficient
body weight” to adequately perform chest compressions is old enough
to learn CPR and choking first aid.
6.
Do I need to be certified?
No. The American Heart Association, the governing body for all CPR training
conducted in the US, abolished the concept of certification for lay-people
at its 1992 national conference. Only paramedics and healthcare providers
need to be certified.
7. If there is no instructor, how will I know if I'm doing
it right?
The video course and the manikins are designed to provide feedback so
that you will know that you have mastered each skill. For example:
- The manikins “click”
when compressing in the correct place & at the right depth for chest
compressions.
- The chest will
rise when you tilt the head and blow sufficient amount of air to inflate
the lungs.
8.
How long is the video?
Approximately 40 minutes.
9.
How long does it take to learn?
Considering time spent to pause the video and practice, most people need
about 30 minutes to learn each age group.
10.
How do you define the different age groups?
The American Heart Association defines the age groups as follows:
- Adult:
Over 8 years of age
- Child:
1 to 8 years of age
- Infant:
Under 1 year of age
11.
Do I have to watch all age groups if I’m only interested in learning
CPR for one age?
No. Each age group stands
alone. You can choose to learn only one age group or all three. The sections
are color coded so you can easily fast forward to find the age group that
you wish to learn.
12.
What are the manikins made of?
The manikin bodies are made of durable, commercial grade foam. The heads
are made of dishwasher safe plastic.
13.
How do I clean the manikins?
The heads are dishwasher safe. The lung bags are replaceable.
14.
How do I order extra lung bags?
Call your CPR Prompt Distributor or call us toll-free at 1-800-558-9595.
15.
Can I be sued for performing CPR on someone who needs help, especially
if the person dies or suffers an injury?
Almost all U.S. states have established Good Samaritan laws to help protect
a rescuer who makes a “good faith effort” to perform CPR on
a victim and to encourage rescuers to take action. These Good Samaritan
laws help to protect the rescuer even if the victim does not recover or
suffers injuries as a result of CPR.
The International
Guidelines for CPR & ECC strongly encourage anyone who has learned
CPR to take action in an emergency. As AHA has noted, when someone’s
heart or breathing stops, the person is clinically dead. Any action, even
if not successful, is better than doing nothing.
